Has anyone tried using paypal with their Korean bank account? I was reading the paypal worldwide site, and it seems that if I can link up my account here with a new paypal profile, I can send money back home to my bank in the US without having to deal with going to the bank. Also, paypal says they handle the conversion and everything, free of charge.

Anyone tried and had luck with that?

You need a different credit card other than KEB. I can't get my address confirmed or transfer funding to my bank.

I've tried to get an international debt card through KB and was told that I couldn't (although I personally think it's BS). My wife said to try Hana Bank. I have an account there already, so I'm going to try that this week and see what happens. If it works I'll start using that one more then the KB.

Now in terms of Paypal, I already had my account set up when I came to Korea. I'm not sure how hard it would be for those of you who don't have an account to set one up from here.

I actually HAVE had experience with exactly that: transferring money into a Korean paypal account, transferring that money to a western paypal account and then withdrawing it to my home bank account.

Trust me, it is not worth it. The service charges were HUGE and the exchange rate sucked. Overall, I lost more than $50 out of that ill fated idea, compared to the $20 service fee that is usually levied between my home bank and my Korean bank.

These days, I just use internet banking with KB to transfer money home. It is quick, easy, and cheap. DON'T mess with paypal, it'll just cost you more money in the longrun.

Has anyone successfully been able to transfer funds from their paypal account INTO a Korean bank account (Korea Exchange Bank)? It won't accept my ID number.

How much is it with internet banking, if you don't mind me asking. And, is it easy to set up?

I should have been more clear in my post: my wife does internet banking. It is a service that you have to register for at the bank and as far as I know, it's not a service that's open to foreigners. Sorry!

I have internet banking at NOngyup.

Yeah, Korea's secure transaction system is bound to IE, through a pretty inexcusable blunder of the gov't.

I use a Korean credit card - Samsung card - to run my Paypal, but I'd had paypal in US for years before I came here.

Has anybody found a solution to this problem? I can't transfer my funds into my bank account either, due to the ID #. What a pain. What other options do I have? I don't have any accounts in my own name anywhere else.

Why don't you test some scenarios and let us know?

It's really annoying isn't it? Maybe we should all send emails to Paypal to get them to accept foreign ID numbers..
