|
|
I just quit my job yesterday as I've been offered a new (and much better) position.
I tried negotiating an LOR, but my director refused to give me one. Instead, I gave him my resignation letter. I left school and went to immigration to submit the resignation letter and failed LOR for my file and to have the address changed on my ARC (it listed my work).
They gave me the same line that my boss needs to come with me to cancel the visa and I have 30 days to leave the country. I told the immigration worker that my boss will probably not come to cancel the visa so she told me to just leave the country and turn in my ARC to cancel the visa.
My question is: If I fly to Japan and hand over my ARC at immigration, can I fly back to Korea on the same day (90 day tourist stamp)? I will bring my outbound travel ticket (Beetle Confirmation) which I think satisfies the requirement. Would I need to spend a night in Japan?
Thanks! |

Yes, you can leave and come back the same day. As long as you hand in your ARC, your visa will be cancelled. Tell them youre finished and not returning to work again....But why not stay a few days and relax in Japan? It's not like you have to rush back to your job.... |

Yes, you can leave and return on the next available flight/boat. Overnight is NOT required.
Handing in your ARC and telling them that you quit will cancel your visa (make sure it is canceled if you are American since you will have a multi-entry visa).

After you return, what do you plan on doing? Don't you still need a LOR or get all new documents? Do you have your criminal background documents to submit with a new employer?
I don't think a lot of thought went on in the original poster's mind about this one. Be ready for a rude awakening, assuming you are doing things normally. |

Take the international ferry from Pusan to Fukuoka. It's 3 hours each way. The ship docks in Hakata prefecture (like a Gu in Korea). There are many green hotels you can stay at for about $50/day in Hakata. Take a nice leasurely day or two in Fukuoka and take the boat back.
The ferry station in Pusan is a 10-15 minute walk from the Pusan Train station. |

Thanks for the replies! I'll return the same day and enjoy Japan when I go again for the actual visa run.
lifeinkorea, I have a job lined up with all my documents ready to apply for a new E-2 visa. My previous employer won't cancel my current visa, thus the need to hand in my ARC (cancel my current E-2). I wouldn't need an LOR since the visa will be canceled. What kind of rude awakening do you foresee? |

If you really want to return the same day, I think the ferry to Tsushima is cheaper than Fukuoka. I was in Tsushima over Chuseok and met some Americans on the ferry who were just going there for 2 hours for a visa run. |

I did exactly this back in the spring. Just give them your ARC and tell them you quit and are not working there any more. I had to repeat this a couple of time for them to understand. Come back the same day or stay the night, it doesn't matter.
No LOR needed, just submit all new documents, wait a few days, and go to Japan again. Immigration told me that they will usually grant the new visa unless there is a pattern of poor work history/visa issues in Korea. |

I'm actually heading to Hong Kong for a night - Air India tickets were cheaper than any flight to Japan!

Thanks for the confidence booster, True Blue. I know the process but it's good to hear that it's as (relatively) easy as it can be. |

I just made the double visa run this summer to cancel an E2 from a boss who fired me, but wouldn't release me so I could get a new job. As long as you have a fresh set of docs in order for the E2 for your new job there should be no problem. |

Well, do you have a new criminal background check then? Since others commented they did it with success, I wonder how they or you got one so fast. |

Old post, but an update:
It worked out fine. Left the country and handed in my ARC at immigration. My new school immediately applied for a new visa. I waited 6 days for the issuance number and they flew me to Japan to get the visa.
All in all, I was out of work for about 2 weeks which wasn't too bad.
It's possible as long as all the paperwork is in order. I had already ordered my FBI CBC anticipating the new rules so that definitely helped. |
