Stories like this abound in the local press there.

Apparently this has become quite widespread in Thailand as well. However wives there seem to be more motivated to separate man-from-beast, finding almost any reason to carry out this crime.

A friend of mine who is married and living in Thailand explained it to me that news is reporting that the women who get sentenced to jail for this crime are treated like royalty once in prison. Other prisoners instantly shower them with gifts and female guards have been known to allow certain freedoms to those women not afforded to other inmates.

It's become so common, that there are specialized clinics in Bangkok now where doctors advertise their ability to sew a man's member back on and have him almost fully functioning again in just weeks.

So combined with their infamous temper, having to be the financial milk cow for their entire family, and now risk losing your best friend for the most minor infractions, it just further resolves my commitment to not date or marry SEA women.

They reattach the offending organ and then you'll be back to acting like an ass within a week or two - presto magic!

In spite of the efforts South Korea has made to be accommodating to the young foreign women it imports to repopulate its rural areas, news of unhappiness and violence aren't uncommon.

Oh, that's so kind of them, accommodating indeed......... it's only until recently that the Cambodian government has allowed foreigners to marry Cambodian nationals due to Koreans bringing them over in large numbers to populate the countryside with more prostitutes and housemaids.

http://news.smh.com.au/world/cambodia-suspends-foreign-marriages-official-20080403-23gl.html

It had said networks of brokers or matchmaking businesses had been arranging fake, deceitful marriages to bring Cambodian women to foreign places like Taiwan or South Korea to work as housemaids or prostitutes.

I'm not naive and I don't pretend these women often don't walk into crappy situations where they're bought by men twice their age and half their IQ and sent to rural Korea to live isolated on some farm somewhere. (But I also don't pretend these women don't know what they're getting into and aren't in it for just as superficial reasons.) As sort of mentioned, Cambodia last year banned marriages between its women and Korean men because the women were being taken advantage of by matchmaking agencies: the ban was lifted a month later. That said, Korea has been making some efforts to rectify the problem and to deal with not only the large numbers of women coming in but their children . . . but clearly haven't fixed everything.

But at least in the US, and in Thailand apparently, this sort of crime is treated much more flippantly than similar sexual violence against women. If a man gouged out his wife's nipples or raped her with a bottle for cheating on him, it wouldn't be the subject of talk show jokes.
