Any decent hotel will run you US$100 per night (or close to it) so you should budget $200 per day for your stay (plus casino money if you are inclined that way when you get to Macau).

I like the Evergreen hotel (1 block away from Jordan MRT and 1 block from the Temple street night market.

There are LOTS of others in a similar price range to choose from on both the Kowloon and HK sides of the harbor.

It is easy to get to Macau.

Jetfoils / fast-cats run from both the HK side (Central) and the Kowloon side of the harbor. It takes about an hour or so to cross and an hour or so (combined) to get through customs/passport control (out of HK and into Macau). The boats run hourly during the day and every two hours during the graveyard.

thanks for the info. found some great rates on hostelbookers of hostels and guesthouses. am hoping to find out by end of week if i can crash on a friend's brother's couch. money saved=more money for shopping.

as for macau, should i book a room overnight or is a day trip fine? i'm not a gambler. i'd take a look and throw some money on lucky #7 for a bit but i know i'd get bored after an hour.

I was in Hong Kong for Chinese New Year. The weather is so so nice there right now.

I spent just under $2000 HKD over 4 days, including accommodation. I'm a budget traveler but not too frugal, everything was pretty cheap. I ate out two or three times a day. There was an amazing yum cha place in a skyscraper by exit L3 of tsim sha tsui metro that had an awesome view of the harbour, but after a lot of food for three people we spent only $130HKD per head on the bill. I was really surprised at how cheap great food is there.

We had a room at 'lee garden guesthouse' in kowloon, which was tiny but so clean and the two ladies running it were nice. Good location for transport and museums.

Bought the metro card for $150 HKD, and got a $54 refund at the end so I used just under $100HKD of transport. Rode the ferry twice, the trams a few times, and the metro a lot.

I went to Macau for a daytrip, was there 10am - 8pm and it was plenty of time I thought. We spent most of the day walking between different gardens, the forts, the church and the museum, and went to the casino area at twilight and stayed a little while. Ate two meals and a lot of gelato in the old part of town. The only expense was food, the attractions were free and I didn't bet in the casino. Its a very walkable city so I didn't take any transport. The ferry ticket was $380 HKD return.

Hey I am new to this site. I don't have the 25 posts necessary to pm people. I am going to HK in May and I need some help in regards to booking flights/hotels. Can either "trixied" or "toniyellow" help me out? My email is [email protected]. I would really appreciate it.

Thanks.
