Is it possible.? She's using the old "I have a friend at immigration" and we'll apply to have you blacklisted.
However, I wonder if it's true and possible...another job wants me, but I may have to pull a runner.
She's trying to keep me here until she can hire a new teacher...however, that's unlikely and blackmail for starters. |

When does your visa expire?
Can they still do the "refusing a letter of release, thus forcing the teacher to wait until the visa expiry to start a new job" thing? |

I quit very earlier on...visa expires in 7 months.
She's at least offering a letter or release to try to coerce me to stay...
She's pretty rich and seems somewhat connected...but no politicians wife or anything...
The head teacher also claims he's successfully blacklisted teachers before(2!)...part of me says BS....but they are offering me some carrot if I wait it out 2 more months.. |

| Next time she tells you that she has a friend at Immigration, tell her, "Let's go meet him right now and all of us can speak to the local Immigration office director!" No doubt her "friend" (supposing she does have one) at Immigration isn't interested in admitting to his boss that he'll carry out an illegal act for her. |

Is it illegal for a hagwon to hire non-degree holding gyopos for hagwon teaching and non-degree holding koreans as teachers?
Becuase mine does.... |

She is blowing smoke out your ass. She can do no such thing (violation of the labor law) and immigration doesn't care as long as you haven't broken any laws. You are free to quit at your convenience.
What they can do is refuse to release you from the contract making it impossible for you to change employers without making a trip out of the country to cancel your visa and then another trip out to get a new visa.

Yes, it is illegal to hire teachers who do not have a degree (Korean, gyopo or foreign).

I don't think that works anymore.
Even if you leave the country now, when you come back your visa has NOT been cancelled - because there is no re-entry visa anymore. |

I don't think that works anymore.
Even if you leave the country now, when you come back your visa has NOT been cancelled - because there is no re-entry visa anymore. |
You just need to hand in your ARC card at the immigration counter on your way out and ask them to cancel your visa. Re-entry permits have nothing to do with it. |

Turn in the ARC - you are no longer registered and your visa is canceled.

Correct BUT believe it or not it HAS happened before. Last week I went to renew my passport at a certain embassy, and one of the diplomats was telling me how this exact same situation happened to a fellow citizen. End result was the embassy were called from the airport after the guy was unable to exit due to his hagwon boss getting in touch with immi saying he had broken his contract.
All the embassy could do was recommend a lawyer for the guy and the diplomat did NOT follow up on the final outcome. (the guy did miss his flight)
