I went with another guy from work in mid Dec. we didn't get anything put it our passports. (Usually they put a little green sticker)

My husband went on Wednesday (Suwon kimmi) and they put a sticker in his. I asked if I could get one and I did Smile

A friend of mine went on MONDAY to Seoul and didn't get anything put it HIS passport.

What's going on?

Generally speaking, nothing is done with your passport. Immigration merely stamps your ARC, extending its life another year. It almost feels like a non-event. At least for me anyhow. I hand over my passport and ARC to my school and they make the Immi run and a week later both are returned, my passport having no changes made, and my ARC stamped on the back.

Its always been hit or miss.

I went for a stretch of over 5 years with no visa updates in my passport (just reentry permits). Never an issue at the airport.

really? NOthing? Maybe it depends on which immigration you go to. Most of my friends have a couple pages of those little green stamps.

I had issues leaving Korea at the airport counter, the woman claimed my visa was expired, it was, and my ARC was no good. She didn't understand.

In the US, they also gave me a few problems. I guess the handwritten semi-rubbed off numbers on the back simply don't look official Smile

My ARC has never been stamped. Just written on with semi permanet marker that seems to rub off all too quickly.

I have always gotten a green sticker in my passport every time I renewed since 2008 in Suwon. It has my name, work place, date of permit, and sojourn period printed on it. Then the office immi guy stamps it "PAID" along with his name.

All I can say is that the five peopel from my school who went in December, at different times (I went with one guy, but the others went alone), didn't get it. And I asked and was told that they weren't giving them anymore and as of 1 December, weren't going to. Yet again, they changed their minds.

This.

I've had around 5 e-2 extensions over the space of 10 years issued in Donghae, Sokcho, Mokdong and a couple of times in Suwon (most recently about 2 months ago) and not once did I ever receive a stamp, sticker or anything else in my passport. Simply just a date change in marker on the back of my ARC.

Very odd. I remember on 1 Dec when kimmi announced that they would "no longer" put stickers in the passports, meaning that up until then they had. And now they're back to putting them in.

As to me, I'd much rather have the sticker than not.

My school took my ARC and passport to immigration in Seoul last week. Came back the same day with the ARC stamped on the back with the new date in 2012 that it is good until. Easy peasy. Nothing was done to my passport or visa, just the ARC.

I was told that it also depends on nationality. That the sticker is just proof that you paid. And since Brits don't have to pay, they don't get the sticker.
