I have noticed that some people think NET's complain too much about Korea and how thier lives are here.

Statements like "if you don't like it here, then leave".

Though in my wanderings on the web, I found this webpage.

http://emigratetonewzealand.wordpress.com/migrant-stories/

You should read some of the comments by immigrants to NZ about the Kiwis and thier lives. Wow, talk about disliking the country.

It amuses me how many of the complaints about NZ are almost the same as some of the same complaints here, but with more fury and yet some of them are still in the country.

I really should check out other webpages similar to that one to see if other countries get the same venom. Though they don't disagree that they need to hide it.

"This tale is taken from Expatexposed, a mutual support and advice forum for migrants in New Zealand. Unlike every other migrant forum on the net it is not run for commercial gain and therefore has nothing to gain by stifling points of view that arent favourable toward New Zealand (another place on the net where one wont see campaign posters )
"

"Some of the recurrent themes were seeing are

Low salaries
Problems finding work
Xenophobia, racism, bigotry and discrimination
Expensive, poor quality accommodation
Problems with the education standards
A lackadaisical attitude towards safety and security
Feeling that NZ is actively mis-sold to outsiders
Isolation, missing family, friends, old lifestyles etc.
Crime
High cost of living -especially food, Rip off NZ etc.
Lack of culture
Dangerous roads and drivers, drinking and driving, hoons
No future for kids
The Kiwi way, WWINZ (wont work in NZ) small mindedness, #8 wire mentallity, etc.
"

etc. Some of the comments are an eye opener, others are funny.

Oh, whats also funny, is that some of the complaints about the cost of living, lack of employment seem to assume that NZ pulled a fast one, but if you just read some NZ newspapers, you would see that the opinion pages are ripe with the same complaints by Kiwis.

Plus its the immigration office that sells the dream it seems, and they are so far from what NZers say about thier country its funny.

Plenty of Asian people get hired, so might be a good time drop the racist rubbish, and realise theres more people in New Zealand than just yourself mate. My partner has a Bachelor in Electrial Engineering and Computer Engineering, is a citizen and cant find work either, so its not just the Asians that are getting a raw deal.

Drop the false kiwi bonhomie, I dont buy it (not from you at least).

I love how you instantly assume because you dont get a job, were Racist
I love how you think you can think for me, mate! Instantly assume? The fact that you think it is a reason worth instantly assuming means migrants are on the right track with that assumption. It seems a lot of immigrants, have correctly instantly assumed racism was behind their economic hardship in a place marketed as a land of plenty, free speech and merit. Remember Occams Razor And the only people who get offended in that way seem to be the covert racists, who want to write-off immigrants based on their race, without allowing anyone to speak up about it. Again, everyone (but especially victimisers) love a silent victim.

If migrants were already talking about racism even in the good times, when Kiwis could afford to be choosy about the jobs they took, now in the bad times (and thank you for proving my point to me about your partner not being able to get a job despite their qualification) how do you think the migrants will cope?
And, by the way, these are the people paying for YOUR benefits so you can spend time arguing spuriously with me on the Internet

They pay full freight for all services, unless granted discounts by virtue of membership to institutions or societies. (And even in universities, for instance, theyre paying 5 times the rate of domestic students, for every paper) They dont game the system with the relish of the natives.

An important (and sobering) question to remember is: If the only industry New Zealand had to rely on was its agriculture (and the education and tourism draw did not exist), would the country be able to sustain itself? Would the country be able to develop? Would the DPB get paid to the people who scream for it? International students asking questions about whether they can find employment in New Zealand before, during, and after they attain their qualification never get their questions answered satisfactorily. Its the elephant in the room.

An example:

Though I found it interesting that most complaints seem to come down to Immigration NZ conned us on what we could have when we got there. And NZers dont seem to be happy to meet us and we feel like they dont like us.

I think NZers woke up to the fact they no one asked thier opinion on immigration and over the last 20 years the population has increased by a quarter, mainly immigrants, therefore they dont feel they need to make new friends.

So maybe both recent immigrants and original NZers got conned by Immigration NZ. I did talk to some people over the years in Korea who had moved to NZ and lived there for a while (British, US, Canada, Korea etc), some seemed to love it while others just wanted the PR so they could leave.
