My mother was born in England, so I looked into the possibility of dual citizenship once myself. It turns out that I would have been better off if it had been my father instead, but even so, I read somewhere that I should have applied before a certain age: either 18 or 21, don't remember which. You can still apply even if you're older -- it's just that there are no guarantees.
The limit on your date of birth is I believe if it was your mother who was British, because the law was changed by Thatcher in 1981 or 1982, so children of British mothers born after the law was changed can get citizenship, whereas before, only men could pass citizenship on to their children.
Go ahead and apply. It's worth a try. |
