I was looking at the SFU web site for info on Linguistics degrees.

I did the Master of Applied Linguistics degree at University of Southern Queensland. It was 8 courses and can be done in 2 semesters or under a year.

The certificate programs in Canada require more credits (10 courses) than the Australian Master of Applied Linguistics degrees (8 courses)!

LMAO!!

You need a BA in Ling. or equivalent to get into SFU. I don't have that.

You DO NOT need a B.A. in Linguistics to apply for the SFU program.

What are you looking at?

What are you looking into that for? Has your online degree not proved worthy there in Taiwan?

By the way, what does LMAO stand for? I've been reading it for months but still don't know.

Well, I guess I meant to say how surprised I am that SFU offers a 10 course "TESOL Certificate" while the Australian M.A. TESOL degrees are only 8 courses.

The M.A. programs in Australia aren't as thorough as the certificate courses back in Canada. I also checked the specific courses - basicaly the same, with the SFU certificate actually being more intensive than the Australian M.A. TESOL progams and requiring a practicum.

Australian M.A. TESOL degrees are a joke.

Macquarie University is 10 courses and the course work and readings are very intensive. The course is not a joke. Dissertation is optional - either 8 classes and dissertation (counts as 2 classes) or 10 classes no dissertation.

Is the dissertation important if you are not going to continue on to PhD studies? Are any employers going to downplay a degree because the dissertation was not chosen?

I'm not sure about lack of dissertation affecting employment. Anyhow I've decided to do the dissertation as I do not want to close any doors even though at this point I'm probably not going to do the phd.

Superhero,

In my view, the Australian M.A. Applied Linguistics course work degrees are a joke. You cannot change my mind on that.

As for as Maquarie University, goes, it sounds like the best school for TESOL in Australia.

And you're smart to do the thesis - how many words is the Maquarie thesis - the USQ one is 28,000 and usually takes about 2 semesters to finish.

The joke is on you if you don't take it seriously, TECO. It's what you make of it. By the way, do you have a first degree in linguistics?

Superhero,

I didn't attack you - so just come back down to earth yourself and tell us all about your M.A. TESOL program and experience rather than acting like a goon.

You too Pyongshin - tell me about your M.A. experience.

What would you like to know? Mine has been bounds better than your experience, at least, from what you posted.

Shoosh,

Ryst
