A school agreed to hire me. They said they wouldn't send me a contract for maybe 2 more months. Is this normal? Or should they have sent me the contract right away?
(I have not gone through a recruiter). |

Well what a major annoyance to you. The school is basically leaving you in limbo for 2 months. At any point in time they can revoke your contract. (if a more qualified teacher comes along, they eliminate the position, etc...) You need the contract to get a visa. You need them to buy your airfare. I would not take a promise from someone I've never met and hope that it holds for two months, especially in the volatile ESL industry. Don't send your documents until you get a contract.
In the mean time keep looking for other jobs. If you get something better or equal, tell them you have another offer WITH A CONTRACT in hand. If they don't extend you a contract, go with the other school. |

Shady. If the school is dragging their feet it probably means they are making sure you are the best possible candidate they have. Basically they "want" to hire you, they are just not committing to you.
This same thing happened to me. If I were you I'd look for other jobs in the meantime, putting you off for two months is uncalled for. I'm assuming you're not in Korea. Don't be surprised if they end up telling you you didn't get the job--it means they ended up hiring someone from within Korea instead. |

Thanks, I thought so.
Does anybody have any recommendations as far as recruiters go?
I am pretty new to this whole thing. |

| Recruiters are all pretty much the same. And by that I mean that they will lie and say whatever they can because ALL they care about is getting your signature on the contract. A recruiter is NOT your friend. It is up to YOU to do the research about the school to make a good choice. If I were you I'd look at the job board + post your resume on this website. Tons of recruiters will contact you work with as many as you can. The more recruiters, the more jobs. |
