Can I get a short term contract legally? I'm thinking of returning but couldn't hack a year. The lure of cold hard cash is tempting! How about 6 month contracts or summer school? I know you can run after a few months but I'd rather not.

It's legal, and probably easy, especially for one month summer schools.

The problem is benefits. You would probably have to pay your own way and for your own place.

I believe shorter contracts are possible -- it's just not normal because most schools would rather go the illegal route than do the paperwork. Also, getting you a legal work visa means they have to be a legal hagwon business, and should be paying tax.

Employers would rather hire an illegal worker here and not bother with it. Schools and teachers definately get busted doing this (I'm one of them, although situation was different) but most employers here would rather take their chances and cheat the system.

You can get shorter contracts.

However as it was pointed out earlier you will have little benefits.

No airfare, no housing and perhaps no medical.

Add up these expense and it might put a dent in your cold hard cash dream.

A 6-months contract would reduce the impact of these costs but would also leave you without much benefits.
Thats part of the game of being 'temp' (temp as in not under a one year contract).
