We are going to Bali for 10 days and want to visit the Gili Islands. What's the best way to get there?
In 4 or 5 days how much of the Gilis are possible to see and which Islands do you recommend? |

It's about a 3 hour speed boat ride from Bali to the Gili's depending on how rough the water is. You could see all of the Gili's in one day. It only takes about 1.5 hours to walk around the biggest of the three islands. |

It's worth noting is that speedboat costs around $120 round trip, IIRC. I spent two days and was quite happy with it, but definitely could have spent longer. You could also go on a legal mushroom binge and never make it back. |

For a cheaper journey you can take the ferry to Lombok and travel through there. At least I think it's cheaper. But it will take much longer. |

On a ten day trip I really wouldn't recommend taking the slow boat, if I remember correctly it takes something like twelve hours, perhaps more. |

Get the tickets in Padang Bai, when you get there. I bought an advance ticket TO the Gilis for $65, and then decided to stay longer (which, leave that as an option. They're very pleasant...) and got a ticket BACK to Bali on the same boat for $30 (and I probably could have gotten it cheaper if I'd been more on point with my haggling). And, it was New Year's, so I doubt availability is an issue in the least.... |

Also, the fast boat really isn't expensive in the context of a vacation from Korea as an English teacher. It's just expensive if you're backpacking, staying in $7 a night hotels, drinking arak, and eating mie goreng. |

Does anyone have any suggestions for good accomodations? I think I want to stay on Gili Air but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of super cheap spots. Should I just stay on Gili T? I feel like if I do its going to be Patong alllll over again....... |
