...you were on a DMZ tour and at the point just before they take you inside the buildings that straddle the border, you bolted across and tried to defect to N. Korea?

Just my weird imagination. I've been twice and every time they tell the story of the Russian guy that ran across to the South side it makes me wonder what would happen if the reverse happened.

My guess would be the US or S. Korean soldiers would dart across and snatch you back before you got too far. And man oh man would you be in some deep shizz then. I imagine detainment, interrogation, potentially charged with something, then deported. Once back home you'd probably have your passport revoked, maybe charged with treason?

The other possibility is maybe the N. Korean guards would freak out and just try to shoot you, thinking you were a suicide bomber or something. That would lead to the UN soldiers returning fire as well.

The last and least probable outcome is you make it across and the N. Koreans take you in and you become a poster boy/girl for the rebirth of totalitarian communism. Very unlikely to happen though.

Either way, you'd be headline news around the globe for at least a few days, haha.

Maybe someone should make a movie about that?

Thoughts?

I hear there are snipers that are trained on that one door. I also hear that there are several snipers that have you in their sights at all times.

What N.Korean guards? If the numbers I saw when I was there are any indication, you'd make it halfway across the country before they caught you.

Haha, yeah there is usually only one out in the open. But last time I was there I could see a few in each of the watch towers pulling back the curtains. Probably taking pictures or something. Weird feeling.
