|
|
I've never flown to Korea before, nor to any other countries that might be sensitive on this matter.
I generally only travel with a rucksack, and I don't own proper luggage. I've been planning simply to bring my belongings in a box. Is this typically acceptable? Does passing through customs mean that I'd need to un-tape the box for an inspection of every item? |

No problems. Just tape it up well and write your name on the outside. |

I've brought boxes over before. The last time, this past summer, it had to be opened up both on the flight out of the States (TSA) and when I came into Korea. Still, not a big deal. |

Koreans travel with big boxes every day for packing along their food. You'll be surprised by the big boxes and large amount of luggage you see when checking in for a flight in a line of Korean travelers such as when you leave Korea. You'll pay more if too big, too heavy, or more than 2 check on pieces. |

You can also fly with a backpack/rucksack. I've done it plenty of times. As long as it's completely closed, it's fine. If you can remove the straps and other dangling bits, do so --> less chance of it catching on something. Or, buy yourself one of those woven sacks (like the type you get potatoes in) and drop your rucksack into it. You can get ones with handles and a zipper on them. When you get to your destination, take the rucksack out and off you go. No dangling bits. No chance of someone accidentally taking your luggage instead of their own. |
