Hello-

I'm thinking of going to Korea to study intensive Korean next summer (2005). I have been to both Seoul and Pusan, and I generally like Pusan better, and it seems more liveable. If one studies Korean in Pusan, will one pick up a strange accent? (I will have studied two years of university Korean by that time). Can anyone recommend any summer programs there?

Thanks!

What are your priorities? The city or the program?

The top programs are in Seoul, however if you prefer living in Pusan, Pusan National University has one you may want to look into. The instructors there probably instruct in the Seoul dialect, however since you'd be living in Pusan the "satoori" would inevitably creep into your Korean dialogue. I wouldn't be concerned about this unless you're planning to look for a job in Seoul. Apparently the english/satoori accent sounds really f*cked up and cute. The k-girls will love you.

Definantly Seoul over Pusan has better programs.

The only popular one in pusan(PNU) has gotten bad reviews over the years due to the ROTE learning teachnique they use, the same way we teach English to Koreans.

Living near Pusan I have picked up a dialect and it surprises a lot of people here but if you take the course in Pusan they do teach in Seoul dialect.

I thought the program was ok in pusan. But in Seoul, there are just more programs for you to choose from.

How long does it take to get between Seoul and Pusan by train? And how much money?

1. KTX (bullet train) - 2 hours 40 minutes - ~ 45 000
2. Saemaul - 4 hours 30 minutes - ~ 35 000
3. Mugunghwa - 5 hours 30 minutes - ~ 25 000

Someone may be able to correct me on the prices. Still peanuts compared to prices in Canada.
