Currently in Ulsan and my contract is up Sept. 23, 2011.
If I want to transfer to Seoul or Busan, how do I go about doing this? I posted about this before for a transfer in March but it was too much hassle to deal with mid-contract.
I assume that I should have my co-teacher contact BMOE or SMOE directly and get the details that way. A friend of mine transferred from Ulsan to GEPIK by only going to Suwon immigration. Same deal (except going to Busan or Seoul immi)? |

An end of contract transfer is quite easy now.
Find your new employer, have a start date within 30 days of your old contract ending (and BEFORE your ARC expires) and do the transfer (same documents as a renewal).
Your most difficult problem will be finding a school after the term starts in the areas you are looking for (they are the most popular in Korea).

And that's the main problem, it seems. I'd be willing to give up severance and return airfare (quit in August) if it meant a better job. But then I'd need a letter of release, correct? I think I can get that based on my history here. Is that all I'd need? |

You want to be wary of potentially receiving less salary than what you are currently making by moving to a different area MOE. A case in point ~ should you be making 2.5mil salary with IMOE and wish to transfer to GEPIK you will get a 2.3mil salary with them. There is no parity with regards to pay. Only after working two years in a GEPIK school will you (again) receive 2.5mil salary.
I've done my two years at 2.3mil to get to 2.5mil here in Incheon and now have completed two additional years at 2.5mil. My contract at my current HS is up on Mar2nd and I was told by IMOE there is only 1 school available in ALL of Incheon on Ganghwa Island for Mar start. There may be others available sometime in mid/late April at the earliest. Do I want to transfer to GEPIK? Hell no.
