Just went down to renew my E-1. Since I signed a two year contract the stamp on the back of my ARC shows that it is good until 2013.02.28. This is a first. Anyone else experience this? This, along with the exemption from needing a multiple-entry permit sure makes things a bit easier.

E1's have always been available for up to a maximum of 2 years (dependent on the length of your contract) and could be extended as often as necessary (for as long as you stay employed).

E2's are limited to 1 year (13 months now) and can also be extended for as long as you stay employed.

Not that I doubt you, but my first contract was for two years, but my ARC was issued for only one year back in 2009 so it came as a nice surprise this time.

E2s are also limited to two years. I'm not sure if this is a change, but it was clearly stated on the last notice of E2 visa regulations that was sent by mail.

I doubt very much that immigration has EVER made a change in order to make our lives easier. If there is ever a change that, in fact, does make our lives easier, you can be certain that it also benefits the officials / employees at Kimmi. The fact that the change might actually also benefit us is surely, in their eyes, an unfortunate and inescapable side effect.
