Last night I printed and signed a total of about 90 sheets of paper.

As I did this I couldn't help but feel a little bit confused/ frustrated, thinking to myself, why cannot I mail one copy that could then be photocopied?

But moreover, my main concern is postage rate. Is it typical to mail literally about 100 sheets of paper to secure a position in a public school?

Contracts require original signatures and should be initialed on the bottom of each page (so there is no hanky-panky with adding/changing pages later).

It is for your protection.

Scans and photocopies can be changed easily (cut and paste) whereas original pen/ink signatures are much harder to fake and fakes are easier to prove as fakes.
