My school contract says that it covers 50% of medical insurance. Does anyone know approximately how much health insurance will run me, and if it covers dental and vision?
Also, my contract stipulates that I will be paying for electric and utilities at my apartment (in Daejeon). Anyone know approximately how much I can expect to be paying for those?
I realize costs will vary, but I'm just trying to get a ballpark budget going.
Many thanks. |

i never had any experience with health insurance, but here's my approximate utilities:
water, electricity, phone: 20k won/month each.
heating oil (used for water heater and floor heating): summer: 100k won/6 months
winter: 100k/month
also available in halves, by far your biggest utility bill especially during the winter.
iirc, garbage fee was like 40k/year, collected twice a year.
these prices were all for me with a roommate, iirc, when he left town and I was by myself for a few months, it was around half of this. i'd say 100k won per person per month, assuming shared phone bill.
overall, utilities were pretty reasonable. |

Health is insurance is about 2% of your monthly salary.
Water - 5 000/month
Electricity - 7 000 - 10 000
Phone - 20 000 - 30 000
Cable - 6 600
Gas - 60 000+ (winter) / 4 000 (summer)
Apt fee - 30 000 -50 000 (not all apts have maintenance fees, but it's not included with rent)
There are a couple of expensive months in the winter, but the other 3 seasons are pretty darn cheap. |

insurance covers emergency dental ( fillings, root canals etc but not cleanings or crowns) vision is not covered, but is very very cheap here. My new glasses cost 80,000 with vision test, and believe me my glasses arent cheap at home. |
