So I quit. How do I feel about this?

So I quit my GEPIK (that unorganized piece of c**p) program position few weeks ago due to the fact the vice-principal is a piece of a bad meat of the public education system. It was at a small elementary school. I had a spoiled co-teacher who had been busy at everything not relating to me. That school was an absolute mess. The head administrators neglected the kindergarten teachers as if they didn't exist. The executives (the people doing the financial and the rest of the school maintenance) literally complained about the vice-principal for being a weirdo, pitied an over-stressed teacher who got a lot of c**p from the head administrators. And they're all obsessed with teacher training than actually teaching kids.

It was a weird school. Nice kids but very anal-retentive educators. The only sane people in that school were the Principal and the executives.

And how do I feel about this? I'm feeling slightly empty that I had to prematurely quit my first job. I don't like the Korean style hierarchy system at work as it doesn't bring the honesty. Thank goodness I'm in my family place in Seoul.

Now I know what to expect. Better get down than doing nothing.

Did you have the ear of the Principal? Did he understand your problems? Principals have a great deal of power in Korean schools and maybe he could have helped you.

He was too inexperienced to handle internal affairs of the school.

I was just asking that question because many teachers with experience in the west don't understand that Korean Principals hold a great deal of the power in schools. If you had him on your side you may have been able to make some changes to your benefit. But if you feel that he wasn't up to it then it was the right thing to move on. You were the one teaching there so you understood the situation. Good luck.

It's great because I already quit long time ago. But thanks for the luck.

I wonder if anybody had their own experience of quitting. Just so that it will be a great lesson for anyone working in East Asia for the first time.

Yes if you also include Korean as an additional language. I don't really have a single native language per se, like most of the people here.

I wouldn't hope too much on rehiring an experienced teacher. GEPIK is a dying "monster" anyways.

I only feel very sorry for the students. But I don't honestly feel sorry to the collective of dysfunctional teachers, school administrators, and the vice-principal.

Funny that I finally recall something. According to the another school worker, that school is infamous for hiring bad Korean teachers around the area. Damn it.
