Hi all,

I've been researching teaching ESL in Korea for a few weeks now and I need some help. I'd like to be near Seoul, so SMOE or GEPIK are the options. SMOE pay level is lower for noobs like me, so I want to go through GEPIK or directly through the district/school/recruiter dealing with them.

The problem is that I have an Australian passport and live here, but I was born in Germany left early age and moved around a bit. I did year 8 in US then moved to Australia to finish high school and get my Bachelors. I consider English my main language, but I do not have evidence of study from grade 7 in Australia (which seems to be the requirement).

My question(s) - is this requirement EPIK/GEPIK/SMOE specific or private and public schools hiring through agents check this as well? I know its possible to bypass these programs and apply direct... but can anyone tell me how to do this?

I want to do a TEFL course asap, but want to be sure I can actually get to Korea in the first place.

Thank you in advance for helping!!!

P.S> I have checked the forums and google, but didnt get a comprehensive answer.

I dont recall giving them proof other than writing down the name of the middle school I attended. I doubt they actually even called the school.

Of course I also gave a copy of my sealed transcripts which might include such information (I think my university's unofficial transcripts did) so maybe that's how it was confirmed.

I don't think the transcript includes high school details. Besides with the new E2 Visa rules, the transcript is no longer used from 1st of September. I only found that out today after ordering them from uni and paying for it Sad

As long as though your uni diploma and passport are from one of the native English-speaking countries, that's all that matters for eligibility requirements/immi purposes.
