I'm moving to Kathmandu this summer and am curious about what experiences people on this site have had there.
I'm looking for any of the following:
1. Favorite haunts
2. Advice (both general and specific)
3. What to bring along from the US
4. The inevitable mockery
Thanks. |

dont expect to make money but get scammed to teach for free while the so called orphanage owner tries to rake in the cash.
other than that it is a cool place to hang out. visas and stuff are sort of easy sometimes and difficult at other times. have fun. |

Well, since I won't be teaching ESL there I've got some insulation from any of that sort of scam.
Anyone have anything else? |

Stay out of Thamel - where will you be living? I spent a bit of time near the Bodnath area which is nicer. I'd recommend heading to Patan and staying near the university area there - great vibes and friendly students who will take you to all the cool dives. |

@exit_everything
I'll be in Sanepa (in Lalitpur). Why should I stay out of Thamel? Is it Kathmandu's Itaewon? |
