Have any of you transitioned from ESL back into a stable job back home? I graduated with a degree in Political Science. Yes yes, liberal arts, I know. Thankfully, I went to a public school and saved up enough to pay off my loans. I really want to pursue a second degree in a technical field. Preferably computer science after saving up here. I just feel like I would be too old though. Currently 22. I'd also need to work part-time, and I would prefer not to work at burger king. Any of you have some experiences you could share?

Maybe work at McDonalds or Subway in the meantime? Burger King isn't the only option. I joke because I love. Seriously, though, 22 isn't too old to do anything. Choose what you really want to do with your life, then find the most feasible way of doing it. Your best option may be to go home, study full-time and work a part-time job that's below you for a while in the meantime. It may be to get a full-time job/keep your job here and study part-time back home/online. All you need to consider is where you want to be in life and how soon you want to be there, then take it from there. Honestly, the one thing I learnt from turning 30 was that I worried about this kind of stuff WAY too much when I was 22ish. The options are almost infinite, so go with what will make you happy and know that 22 won't seem so old when you are 30, or 40, or 50, or 23. Have some fun and good luck.

Haha, don't worry about being too old. I started college at 17, quit three or four times to travel, and now I'm finally taking my last three semesters to obtain a B.A. I am 26! Certainly not traditional, but definitely not too old. I actually think it's working out very well. I'm a much more capable student now than I was eight years ago. You can probably kill a second B.A. in about two years, full time. Why not go for an M.A., though? What do you want to do for a career?

Absolutely true. I'll be 30 soon, and thinking back when I was 22...shshhh, mentally I was still 18; a naive know-it-all who really didn't know jack (no offense OP). There comes a time around the age 27 that you catch up with the adult world and things slow down. You have a different mindset. I think back on the things i did, and the way I thought back when I was in my early 20's and shutter. Embarrassed.

I shutter all the time, too. Especially when I remember how often I left my shudders open during a bad wind storm. Still, there's really no point to regret. Generally, its an udder waste of time. Try not to milk it for anything more than it's worth.

Sounds like you have as much time on your hands as I do.

Too true, but I'll be employed soon, and so will be able to skim this board without feeling the need to teat every Dave's ESL Cafe post that's funny to me like the milk of human kindness, one that must be sucked for all it's worth. I'll have graduated by that point to soju and scotch. Oooh, just thinking of it makes me shutter.
