Anyone have any experience with this?
I just bought a US version XBox (from someone in this forum) and when I plug my power brick into my transformer, it does not light up. Same issue when borrowing a friend's travel adapter and trying different outlets.
Does my XBox (seller never actually played it) just have a bad adapter or do US adapters not work in Korea even with transformers? |

| What kind of step down converter are you using? The XBOX 360 takes a ton of watts so you the small 100W 220 > 110 bricks will blow out your power brick. I blew out one power brick because I bought a wrongly advertised converter. I found out later it is almost just as cheap to buy a Korean power brick for your US Xbox. No problems and no need to have a huge converter plus the huge power brick. |

You know, I am really at a loss to explain the "pee into others' Cheerios" mentality on this board, given that it's supposed to be a resource for professionals.
It's more pronounced over in the Buy/Sell forum where some people feel compelled to try to ruin other people's sales, but I see it here too.
Is it possible I bought a pre-broken XBox? Yeah, but to jump to that conclusion automatically is pretty ridiculous. (Especially given that my ability to register the XBox and sign up for free tech support, which I have, backs the seller's story that he bought it and was never able to play it.) All the evidence points to the idea that hopefully, the power brick may be the sole problem.
Now, if you owned an XBox yourself, you could thus tell me "Yes, a US power supply should work with a transformer" or some kind of useful information. Or perhaps even if a Korean one will work (thus allowing me to fix the issue this weekend).
As is, you're just trolling. Go do it somewhere else please. |

The transformer I'm using says "2KVA Down Transformer". It's worked just fine for my PS2 and DS systems I brought with me.
But from what you say, a Korean power brick will work for the US XBox.

Relax dude. You asked for an answer and I gave you one. You don't like it so you jump down my throat. Get off you high horse and don't kill the messenger.
Thing doesn't work when you plug it into a 2KV...it's broken. Plenty of people on B&S will sell you crap...and you don't even try it out. If it's as new as you say it is then RTM it. |

No, you didn't give me an answer. You just trolled because you wanted to feel superior. As someone who actually wanted to help pointed out, it seems to be best to just buy a local power brick. So I can do that.
Do you even OWN a US XBox you are using here? If not, you are just trolling. Just trying to feel superior to tell other people their item is broken when that's just one of the possible conclusions and you have no definite idea it is that. Again, the "pee in the Cheerios" mentality rather than a helpful one.

An answer to your question is not a troll. You tried 2 transformers, so the odds are HIGHLY likely that either the xbox or the power brick is, in fact, a dud. Could he have given more info? Sure. Was his answer better than nothing? Yes. And he doesn't need to own an xbox to give advice if he knows what he's talking about.

The other good news is that the power bricks have built in surge protection, so if in fact your power brick is blown out. The Xbox itself should be fine.
If you do purchase a Korean power brick make sure it is for the same version xbox. I think the new slim 360's are slightly different in terms of power consumption than the older ones. |

There are actually quite a few variations on power supplies for xbox, since they needed to change the motherboard a few times to solve the RRoD issue. Rather annoying, but the OP is probably ok, since it's most likely a power brick problem, not the xbox itself. |

One of the most common logical fallacies on the Internet is to accuse an opponent of "sensitivity".
That said, yes, his post was a troll. The pretty clear implication was that the console as a whole was a dud. While that is always a possibility, jumping to that conclusion immediately was just a jerk move. And, yes, it was much less helpful than saying.nothing would have been. In fact, the intention was obviously to be unhelpful.
I'm just saying that that should have no place here. Nothing "sensitive" about that at all.
But I'm done arguing what should be obvious to most people. Want to defend a troll, knock yourself out. I got the info I needed. |

You seem awfully combative. Hanguker might not have made the best post on the matter, but that hardly seems worth the response. He did answer your question, he just didnt explain why. If you don't like it, just ignore it instead of trying to make enemies. I have gotten plenty of helpful information on Dave's; it seems unfair to attack the whole forum just because of a post that doesn't agree with you. Most of the posts ARE helpful (although we seem to have differing opinions on "helpful").
As for the Buy/Sell forums, I really like the posts that provide extra information about a product. It's hardly "ruining" a sale if the sale wasn't fair to begin with. It gives people who may not be informed on the matter extra information in order to not get ripped off. Some people certainly go about it the wrong way, but it's always nice to get an informed opinion. |

Not combative at all. Just not big on the "pee in the Cheerios" mentality, as I said. "It's the Internet" simply isn't an excuse for that in what is supposed to be a gathering of professionals.
And, yeah, we seem to have different opinions on helpful. If you think his response was remotely so, given that of course I already knew that it was a possibility, I'm not sure what to say...

This is a stupid question, but have you tried another 100v device to make sure the converter works?
I have a US Box set up here, and one day it didn't work. Turned out I blew the fuse in the converter. |

Yeah, my PS2 still works.
Given that I also tried my friend's travel adapter, it seems likely that I just need a new power brick. I'm going to take the broken one to Seoul today and hope that that huge electronics store across from Gangbyeon will have a replacement. |
