This may sound bizarre, but my mom and grandmother were Korean citizens and neither of them are recorded in a Family Registry. Most of my grandmother's family from Korea is no longer living and the village she was born in no longer exists (the closest city to it is Daegu). On top of that, she claims she was never recorded in the Registry because female births weren't important. I don't know if her memory on this is accurate, but I wouldn't even know where to look if I wanted to try to verify this.
As for my mom, her real father passed away before she was born. She wasn't recorded either. All we have is her Korean passport and her Naturalization papers.
Does anyone know of a way to obtain an F4 without the hojuk? Or is there way I can try to find my great grandfather's hojuk - to check and see if my grandmother is really not listed - even if the town my family lived in no longer exists? I find it so strange that my family has no records existing in Korea, but I just asked my grandmother about this and that's what she's saying. |

I don't think you can have a Korean passport without being in the social security system. You definitely cannot renew a Korean passport without having an ID number. She must be on some hojuk SOMEWHERE.
#1 Don't listen to your grandmother. She's old.
#2 Your case seems a bit special. I think you're gonna be on a wild goose chase by asking different parties and trying to figure it out. Get a relative in Korea to hire an expert (lawyer or anyone) to clean up this mess for you. Even relatively simple cases can take forever because people ask 20 different people their opinion on the matter. Hire an expert and get to the bottom of it immediately. |
