I just wanted to know if anyone has any recent experience bringing a dog back to the U.S. I've been reading posts on the PetTravel website forum, but had a few questions.
From what I understand, after looking at U.S. dog quarantine procedures, a dog can be allowed into the U.S. even if its rabies shot hasn't passed the 30 day mark, but you must sign a paper promising to keep your dog at home until 30 days is reached. However, some people are saying that Korean quarantine, at the international airports, will not let you out of Korea with your dog if 30 days haven't passed since the rabies shot was administered. Can anyone clear this up? Also, I do have the signed and stamped paper confirming that the rabies shot was given by a licensed vet.
Also, any other experiences or advice regarding different airline experiences with pets, etc., would be greatly appreciated. |

| There is an office at Gimpo airport that only handles pet travel. They can really help you out. The lady who my friend used is named Gina Nam - she raved about how helpful the lady was; however, you pay a price for the service. I don't know about the vaccinations, but when her dog left, it was easy and no hassle. It didn't stay in quarantine in the US. Will you be travelling with the dog? |

Yes, after reading more I've found that the U.S. doesn't quarantine pet dogs. I've gotten the rabies shot for her last month, so that shouldn't be an issue when we fly out next month.
The plan is to fly out of Incheon Airport and take an Asiana, Delta, or Korean Air flight. I'm not sure which airline is the most pet friendly. Yes, we will be flying back together, but my dog will have to go checked or in cargo because she is too large to be in the cabin.
What is the deal with this office in Gimpo? Is it offered by the airport or is it private? I'm a little worried about the process in reserving the appropriate tickets with a travel agent, but most likely will have a Korean friend translate everything. From what I understand, when I reserve my ticket I also need to reserve a spot on the plane for my dog and there are limits on the number of animals per flight. I'm also concerned about the weather in mid to late February in Incheon, because if it is below 10 degrees Celsius then they won't let pets into the cargo. Any more information on these topics or the office in Gimpo would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

| Well you are right that there are only so many dogs allowed on each flight. In addition, there are some months when animals are not allowed on the flight. I know it is definitely true for June, July & August because those are the busy months. I know that the office at Gimpo, the lady does speak English, and she might be able to give you more information. Also, you can always just call the English number for Korean Air/Delta/Asiana and they can tell you. They might also have all of that information on the website. You don't need to do anything through a travel agent, but maybe through this dog agent. They help Koreans arrange for their animals to travel domestic and internationally. |

Thanks for the advice. I've already booked with Korean Air. If anyone has any experiences with them I'd appreciate to hear it. Thanks |

You are to be commended for being a responsible pet owner.
Your willingness to provide a stable, long term home for a pet is the exception, rather than rule when it comes to expats in this country. |

| Yes, we've arrived in Chicago safely. My puppy ended up flying with Korean Air in cabin for 270,000. It was an 11 hour trip, which got stressful for her around the 8 hour mark, but some trips to the bathroom together kept both of us sane. Thanks for all the help. Also, I currently have an untravelled Medium Vari-Kennel, in Korea, for sale for a used price of 85,000 won. If anyone is interested me then they can send me a message and the Kennel can be shipped anywhere in Korea. Thanks and good luck to everyone. |
