the protective plastic on new products forever? Are you annoyed by people like me who go around stripping it mercilessly from every smooth metal or glass face that I see?
Just wondering how many toes I've stepped on in my war against this ugly blight of unnecessary protection.
Also what happened to the little known facts about Korea thread? Did that turn nasty? 'cause it was pretty innocent when I saw it... |

My husband insists on keeping the protective plastic on the case of our laptop. Everyday I control my temptation to rip it off and throw it out the window.
However, I did win the plastic on the air-conditioner, TV, and car seats battles. We have agreed to remain at a ceasefire. |

| I noticed Koreans try to leave the plastic on new stuff as long as possible......like keeping those blue-foam shipping studs on your car doors for months! Until they're all scuffed and dirty......that's so sad looking. |

| I hate, hate, hate it when people leave that stuff on. The point of it is to keep your new product looking nice and shiny until you purchase it. By leaving it on for the lifetime of your device, you cause your product to look like garbage after about 1 week of use. |

Some people buy new "studs" on g-market to replace them when they're dirty:)
I take that crap off too. I said to my wife, "that's for the shipper until it gets to the customer. Who's it being saved for?" |

Not just Koreans. I know a lot of middle-aged Chinese-Canadians who do it too. |

The worst is leaving the protective covering on stainless steel doors, door frames, ranges, hospital carts and trays, kitchen hoods etc.
The protective covering should be removed after installation. It is there to protect the steel from scratches during shipping. But, after installation, the covering can trap moisture between the steel and the coating and actually cause rusting. In hospitals, keeping the coverning on can create a good environment to incubate mold and bacteria.
You should remove as much of this harmful and damaging covering as possible. Encourage Koreans to remove it or do it yourself when no one is looking. |

I removed one of these from the sensor on a urinal at school. The sensor came off with it.
I've seen plastic covering couches, carpets, car seats, usually belonging to my FOTB friends |

| On DVDs and video games there are sometimes stickers that show that the case has not been opened. I can't stand when people just slice down the line and open the case, leaving the sticker cut in half, still stuck the the edge of the DVD case. You worked hard for the money to buy that move/game you wanted! At least show yourself and the makers some respect by taking it all off. |

Years ago when I got a DS, I left the covering on. When it started to peel off, I thought I had broken it. My husband gave me a stern talking to and removed the covering.
I am helpless sometimes. |

I not only slice through it, I throw the entire case out and put the game/movie in a binder. They take up far less space. The only cases I keep are for box sets, though I haven't gotten one of those in years, what with the interwebs. |

| We had all new white boards installed in our English Zone. There is a plastic covering sealed to the board. My coteacher couldn't figure out why the markers wouldn't erase easily. I kept telling her there is a plastic covering, but she wouldn't believe me, insisting that it was part of the board. Finally, I just ripped the entire thing off after class and showed her how easy it was to erase without the plastic wrap covering it. |

| When I first moved into my new place, I was having a tough time getting the touch-sensitive bathroom light switch to recognize my touch. The family that I live with was also struggling with it. They'd lived there for a couple years already, so it never crossed my mind that the problem was so mundane as a plastic covering. But eventually I saw it peeling at the edge, grabbed ahold and ripped it off. Felt so damn good to no longer have to violently molest the touch panel every time I wanted to used the bathroom. |
