Hi,
Longtime reader, first post though.
I'm thinking about going to Korea to take intensive language courses. I've seen posts on here discussing Yonsei, KLI, Sogang and Sookmyung, but I came across another on the interwebs and was wondering if anyone had any feedback on it? Or, just general advice.

This school seems the least expensive compared to others I have found, but I thought it was weird no one here has ever mentioned it since there's such a vast amount of info one here.
Any help would be appreciated on advice on which is the best to take. Beginner Korean speaker, but I'll be studying a lot the next few months, with plans to go in the summer for a month for intensive courses.

I don't think this is a good choice for anyone.
Amerispan seems to be a middleman that knows nothing about Korean and the different schools in Korea. Their prices are not great at all (For 12 hrs a week over 4 weeks they charge 570 dollars. A typical 12 hour a week program charges closer to 300,000 won. Metro Korean Academy for example charges 350,000 for 10 hrs a week) There is not much information at all about their school. Not even the name of the school.
I searched by the address they gave and it is Ganada Korean school. Their 4 week charge would be 420,000 including registration and textbook fees. So right there I just saved you 200 dollars.

Ganada's cost of the housing is 500,000. So 920,000 total (820 dollars) vs. the 1235 dollars Amerispan wants to charge you for the same package.
I recommend you do more research before falling for this Amerispan spam.
I suggest finding your own program... Ganada, Metro Korean Academy, KLA, and YBM Korean Language Institute are a few options you can look at. You can sign up when you get here...classes usually start on the 1st of the month. Just come here and stay in a hostel for a few days and find a room yourself also. A simple, small, modest room in a lively student area will cost you 350,000 to 550,000 and it is easy for you to get this done yourself once your feet are on the ground. Don't go through middlemen unless you want to waste money. |

If you dont mind small cities u can find cheap courses and living expenses there.
Try cities like Andong, Kumi, Kyongsan etc. prices are very cheap there, and teaching methods are almost same. |

R., you're the man/woman. I appreciate your help. This was very useful. A few hundred bucks can go a long way in Seoul if I spend it wisely. Thanks again. |
