^This is one of my favorite scene of Good Will Hunting. Matt Damon destroyed him with this line "You drop $150,000 on an education that you could have gotten for a $1.50 on late charges at the fucking public library"....This scene just reaffirmed my belief that college diplomas are nothing but toilet paper these days and that higher education is nothing but a racket.

shieeet, you don't even need a library card anymore, just google and wikipedia.

buuuuuutttt.... i was an art student and having class critiques were needed. i think it's important to be around your peers to at least discuss things to reach a higher truth.

Ha, when I went to university the government paid for tuition fees, food, accommodation, and a little money for beer thrown in on top. They even let you claim social security benefit during the summer holidays. You would have been a total idiot not to sign up for that. I worked evening jobs as well and came out with a degree and some savings.

The point is: Matt Damon is a Harvard educated idiot. Confusing a character he plays in a film with reality is the greater idiocy.

UK I'm guessing. Same as me. Except I faffed about and didn't go to Uni until the Conservatives had completely ruined the party for students and introduced partial grants and loans instead of 100% grants for living expenses.......so I had to borrow 5000 pounds over 3 years to buy my beer with!

Still got 100% tuition paid for though.....I hear they don't even get that now in the UK.

Opps, but still at Harvard. There must be some other actor that studied history there that I was thinking of.

Yes. Only a matter of time though before it becomes like the States. Nowadays the young generation are trying to get older people to feel guilty about getting all that free stuff but the mood was different when I did my degree. Only about 10% of people went on to higher education and there was definitely a sense of entitlement. Degree in any field = well paid white collar job. The government or people decided they wanted more people to go to university so they couldn't afford to pay for it any more. All different now and I would think a lot more carefully about what subject to do if I was going to invest all that money. Having said that, I've never wanted to go into business so I probably wouldn't have done things differently. Except maybe not have bothered getting a degree at all. Matt Damon's character's point could have been made about any formal education as there have been self taught people in all fields.
