There is an iPhone sticky-thread and a Galaxy S thread below which go for about 50 pages each and will give you all the info you need on iPhone or Android options in Korea. |

Since I wouldnt want to comb through that many pages of (near) useless information:
Any plan over 55,000 a month has unlimited data as far as I know from the 2 major carriers (SK and KT). The smartphone plans start at 35,000 a month for something like 100 minutes, 200 texts, and 100mb data (thats the one I use). If you want to get the cellphone from the provider, they usually require a 2 year contract or you have to buy the phone outright. KT has the iphone, SK has the best selection of Android. There's also LG telecom (OZ) which I had when I first got here. They're similar to the other two.
Best phones IMO:
good cheap android: galaxy S, since there was a big price drop recently (this would be my pick if I were you)
best android (IMO) Optimus 2x (dual core processor, camera flash)
I assume since you have experience w/ iphones that you know the different flavors, but they're all available here.
No experience with blackberry, sorry.
Drew10 likes to pop around here and give very helpful advice. He runs a cell phone shop. I'd contact him for a plan, since he'll probably take care of you.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. |

Thanks for the kind words akcrono.
As for 2011, well....we haven't seen the new crop of phones that are going to hit the market soon.
Yes, most require a 2 year contract in order to get the subsidized price of the handset.
KT has a very wide variety of smartphones available. I think KT has the market cornered with the Dell phones right now. My sources say that since SK will be getting the iPhone and iPad soon...KT will also get the Galaxy S2. Something to think about.
Your best bet is to check things out a little closer once you actually land. If you're in Gyeonggi-Do, give me a shout. I can definitley help you out.
I just helped an "E2 scum" (as some posters like to refer to themselves) get an iPhone a couple of days ago, no problems just a small wait for activation. |

I remember you mentioning something about the streak being a decent replacement for a tablet. Is that what you use? |

I have a Galaxy S.
The streak would be a decent replacement for the Galaxy tab if you were willing to give up 2" of screen. I like the streak because it's more of a hybrid phone/tablet, not much of a phone but not much of a tablet either. It's default setup is landscape not portrait. It auto-orientates itself to portrait if you wanted to use it like that, but the controls are setup in landscape. Unlike the tab you can easily fit it in your front pocket and hold it to your face to have a conversation, and it's not very thick (also unlike the tab).
The streak is a tough phone, it's made from gorilla glass and metal. If it got damaged, it would be because someone was actively trying to damage it.
I would certainly own one...but I'm stuck with this Galaxy S for another year or so. |

I just got the Optimus 2x...so far, it's very awesome. Incredibly quick with everything I've tried to do with it and the 8mp camera and full HD video camera are nice touches. |

Just a shout out:
Great thanks to Drew10 who lead me to buy HTC Desire HD (Galaxy S has been my target eversince but saw almost everyone here have it... and I don't like that). I'm super tempted to get Streak now, but I think I'll spend a little more time with DHD. |

Have the other Galaxy phones dropped significantly in price as well? Like the one KT has? |

Not to my knowledge, with the price drop on the s it's now the best value galaxy on the market. |

That's too bad. I've got a friend who is a die hard KT customer who was waiting for a price drop, guess they'll keep waiting. |

I personally feel there are way better phones on KT than the Galaxy K. So die-hard KT customers could find good phones for a better deal. |
