I have a 22" monitor that was for a computer that is not used anymore. I want to use it as a TV in my bedroom. Anyone know if this is possible? I used to have a 20.5" monitor that came with a remote that had TV capabilities so I'm assuming it's the same. However, I don't have a remote for the current 22incher.

Would I need to get a separate cable box?

Any input would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Most made-as-PC-monitors don't have TV tuners......some of the bigger screen-size ones do. Like 27'' and over.

Check the inputs on the back. Does is have a coaxial input?

Eamo is right. If there isn't a coaxial input on the back of the TV you will have to get a special cable box that has VGA or DVI outputs. Another option is to buy a TV tuner card for your PC and use that as a "cable box." I used to do that in the states, but never tried it here.

Thanks guys.

Forgive my ignorance but is the coaxial the cord that looks like a cable cord?

Yes. Standard cable jack, looks just like the one in your wall.

Thanks. Sorry one more thing: so if I get a second cable box with DVI then I should be able to connect and use the cable box remote correct? The cable box I have for my TV has DVI and HDMI, although I'm pretty sure the computer monitor doesn't have HDMI.

Thanks again.

HDMI to HDMI will offer the best video quality. You can also get a converter that does DVI to HDMI.

Yes, you shouldn't have any problems if you have a universal remote. It won't work to turn on the monitor though (no infrared portal).

If you want to avoid buying another cable box. You can split the signal from one box and, assuming you don't want to watch two different channels on both TVs at the same time, use one cable box for two TV's. However, you will only be able to change the channels through the wall if you have a radio frequency remote.

If you go to your favorite electronics store here in Korea, you'll find many offerings of about 23" monitors with Co-ax jacks on the back. Seem to be decent quality. Typically run about 350-400,000. Probably can get a better deal at Yongsan.

HDMI and DVI are identical in terms of quality. They are both digital signals, there is no difference, DVI is infact superior due to the ability to keep a connection nice and tight with the inbuilt screws, no more trying to pop a lose cable back in!

The difference between DVI and HDMI is that HDMI will also carry your audio.....so you don't need another cable for audio......but you're right that the video signal quality is exactly the same.
