The big difference between the 2555 and the 2555EZ is the housing and self employment deductions. If you own houses and/or are self-employed it is recommended to file using Form 2555 as both the housing deduction and self-employment income can be claimed with this form. If you are not claiming or do not qualify for these deductions the EZ form is sufficient.

To answer your other questions; No, documentation such as W-2s or pay stubs are not required to prove income when filing the 2555.

Whether you claim your spouses income with yours is up to you. To include it you have to file a joint return. To do that either a SSN or Tax ID number are required.

Their website being down is not a legitimate excuse. Sorry, you are liable for all penalties and fines. Keep up with your home countries tax and financial responsibilities. (directed at everyone, not just the OP and intended as friendly advice not a lecture. Take it for what it's worth)

Hey,

I've heard this again and again that you are not required to have a W-2 or proof of income for the 2555. Can someone provide a link to an IRS source that states this?

I'm having to prove this to the CPA thats working on my return...
