|
|
So, I am sick of spending anywhere from 10,000 - 14,000 for a small steak at the local grocery store. Although it is absolutely delish, I need to get this meat in bulk, and I don't care whether it is from USA, Canada, Korea, whatever. Just want to buy a bunch of steaks, freeze them, and get that cost down a bit!
Best place to do so? Any costco members suggest joining? Is it worth that 40,000 registration / membership fee? |

We love Costco and think the membership fee is worth every penny. They have a wide variety of western products at great prices including cheese, wine and meats. Not to mention the food court. You can also get 2 cards with one membership so you and a friend can split the cost.
If you're not close to a Costco there are some online alternatives that will deliver right to your door. You'll pay a little bit more per item (EZ Shop Korea really jacks up the price), but it's really convenient not to have to make the trip back with bags full of food.
Our favorite is www.costlove.com. You can also use www.ezshopkorea.com. There's also www.nicedeli.com.
Happy shopping! |

I hit costco once a month to pick up a variety of things. Cereal is a decent price (10,000won for a 2 KG box of Raisin bran lasts me about a month) and of course meat. You can usually find beef and pork there for a decent amount less than Emart or the other shops. If you have an oven you can get 2 chickens for a price much less than emart as well.
Bacon is a better price (2x500g Hommel brand for around..hmm.. 11-12,000 I think). Bagels are also a better price there if you're into that as well.
a dozen for 6,000 won. |

before this turns into another *yawn* costco thread...
shop around at other local supermarkets. my lotte super will often have US beef steaks (though a tad thin) for 7-8000 won, and it's enough for 1.5 meals. can't remember exactly i'd say it was around 2200-2700 won for 100 g. when it gets marked down it's an even better steal. however, it's not always available. just nab it all up when you do see it. |

And costco generally runs much lower than that. You can get beef there for around 1500-1900 |

I'm not totally certain, but I noticed that around payday (the 17th) there
were a lot of good deals on meats, specially beef. So that's exactly what I did. I spent just over 30,000 on 9 thin Aussies beef steaks and froze them.
Not the best selection of beef, but at this point of being beef starved because of the rising costs, i don't mind. I also did the same with chicken. |

Steaks, but various different cuts. They have some much more than that as well, but there is decent steak meat there for under 2000. |

Costco has competitive everyday prices on meats, and when there's a sale, you can get a great deal. That's when you should stock your freezer.
BTW, don't stock your freezer with everyday priced meats. Jump on a sale and get the best price possible when buying a large amount. |

Thanks. Sometimes I find steaks for that price, but they seem awfully low quality cuts of meat. And usually the adjuma cuts them in front of me, and I have to really pound it into her head that I want a thick slice, not thin. And then the adjuma looks at me like I am crazy for not wanting a razor thin steak....
Haha, just venting a bit. Anyways, will check out all the places ya'll mentioned. I need my protein! In meat form! |

| My wife and I do costco. I look for the best cuts of meat with little fat and bring them home and half or quarter them depending on the size and cut. I cut them to about 6-10 oz sizes. Then I wrap each cut in wax paper put them in a zip lock bag or large freezer bowl. When I want a steak I take them out to thaw. Then season as I want, wrap in thin plastic wrap, tenderrize it until it's dead 3 times over and throw it in my cast iron skillet. Not the best you'll ever eat but it's pretty good. |
