I've never owned a smartphone before. I'm a very tech savvy person but I've always been behind the curve when it came to phones. I've played around with an iPhone, briefly and that is about the extent of my experience.

Anyway, I'm really liking it so far. It feels like having a PC in my pocket. I figured smartphones would have a lot of slowdown issues given the fact that they're phones performing desktop-scale tasks but so far this smartphone has done everything I've told it do and I'm freaking amazed at all the things it can do. I haven't even thought about calling anyone yet. I love the fact that I just downloaded the Skype app and I probably will never have to buy a calling card again.

I'm also really surprised at the unlimited bandwidth plan. I'm paying 55k per month for unlimited bandwidth and 300 minutes (2 year contract/no money down).

I have a few questions too.. how is the Galaxy U different from the Galaxy S I've been hearing so much about? How does it differ from an iPhone 4? I've done some research but it seems like this phone has just come out and is only available in Korea.

Do you pay nothing for the phone? Just the 55k/month?

Nothing for the phone. Just the 55k a month (actually comes out to around 70k as I just realized because I asked for more minutes).

I think the fact that I was on a fresh E2 Visa helped. I can tell you exactly where I got it if you're interested. It was quite possibly the best/most helpful cell phone shop I've been in in this country.

You are mistaken. The Galaxy U and S are almost identical. Same CPU, same RAM, same camera. There are only 2 differences. The Galaxy U has a 3.7 inch screen but the Galaxy S is slightly bigger at 4 inches. Also, the Galaxy U has 8 gigabytes of internal flash storage while the Galaxy S has 16 gigabytes. Other than that they are the same phone. This also applies to the Galaxy K. The K and U are exactly the same, the K is sold by KT and the U by LG Telecom.

You may have been thinking of the Galaxy A, which is older and slower than the Galaxy S.

The S has a Super Amoled screen and the U and K are just Amoled, not a huge difference at all IMO if you see them side by side.

For what it's worth the U and K also feel a bit thicker and more substantial to hold onto. The only reason I put a case on my Galaxy S is that it's a slippery bugger to hold onto (I have nightmares about dropping it into the toilet, yes I realize it should be in my pocket when I'm doing that). It's almost too thin and too light. If I had the U or K I'd be completely naked (no screen protector either) - although I'd verify that they use gorilla glass first like the S does.

The store I went to is here:

As far as I can tell, they're happy to have new customers and have no problem signing up a foreigner for a smartphone with no money down. The only problem is that you're looking at a two year contract.
