Lately, I've been hopping into the shower in the morning, and the water is cold for a little bit. Then, it warms up nicely and I get into the water and about 30 seconds later it gets cold. Ice cold.

I open the bathroom door and look at the thermostat and the little red light that is ON when the heater is actually heating isn't working.

Sometimes it will kick on on its own and get warm, but then it turns off early and gets cold again. Sometimes I go over and flip the thermostat off then back on again.

This is a relatively new problem, maybe they past month or so, but it's been getting progressively worse. I haven't changed any of the settings on my thermostat, and I know exactly how the thermostat works, so this isn't a user error kind of thing.

Anyway, I don't know much about the tankless heaters that they use here in Korea. I have a suspicion that there is something wrong with the internal thermostat in the heater itself. Anyone have any experience with this? Any ideas?

Yes. The same thing happened to me about a month ago. It was terrible. The solution I found was to fill about 6 1-gallon buckets of cold water every night before I went to bed. The next morning, it is nice and warm while I'm dumping it over myself.

In my apartment last night, there was a flashing yellow light on the thermometer, and the temperature kept changing rapidly. There was also no hot water. My landlord came over, and he went to the boiler and drained this nasty brown water out of it (about a litre). Anyway, this is apparently routine, and now everything works just fine. Get your landlord to assist.
