Hi all-

Im an attorney that is considering moving to Seoul for a year to study Korean at Sogang or Yonsei University starting in the Fall, and was thinking that Id also like to get a part-time job teaching or private tutoring. Before making the move, I intend to visit in April for a week or two to make sure that I can handle breathing there (I have mild asthma). I was thinking that I could also get a jumpstart on finding a job, and trying to get interviews with schools for the fall. Do you think this is a wise use of my time in April or should I just wait to start a job search in the Fall once Ive made the move? If it is a good idea to start in April, where and how should I start looking? Although Ive searched the website, I was unable to find a current list of good hagwons and schools to hit up.

Based on all the posts, it seems like it's probably going to be difficult for me to land such a job. What's your opinion on that? Also, if anyone could give me other suggested resources for non-teaching jobs, that would be much appreciated. Thanks.

If your a gyopo, you can you get the F-class visas. That'll opens up a lot of corporate jobs.

Since your a licensed attorney, I don't understand why you want to become an english teacher for any length of time. You might be overqualified and it'll be hard for you to get a part time job without any teaching experience. There are after school positions available but, I've tried getting them before and most them won't hire gyopos even though I myself have more than 2 yrs experience. Besides I don't know if you can get your school schedule to wrap around them.

The specialty hagwons like LSAT, GRE, SAT, TOEFL, TOEIC, pay a lot but most of them aren't part time and they've got long hours. If you've ever worked full time while going to school, its not easy.

Your best bet might be to just fly here and use your family contacts and your own door to door advertising to get one on one tutoring gigs

Part time jobs don't like hiring gyopos, at least for english teaching stuff. If they do they usually want bilingual. The advertisements will almost always say what visa classes they're take.
