For many non-American expats living in Korea, getting a taste of home ― literally, in the form of familiar foods, spices and dressings ― does not come easy.

The limited options include eating at one of the few foreign restaurants in Seoul, or relying on care packages from home or friends working in embassies.

Then, about three years ago in the multicultural neighborhood of Itaewon, a few stores opened up specializing in foods and spices not found in Korean supermarkets.

Prices and food selections vary, but overall, the choice was good.

Friends working in embassies?

Expat Mart is on a side street down from the Indian embassy and is open from 10 a.m. through 10 p.m., seven days a week.

Where is the Indian embassy?

Why, to paraphrase the article, "for many American expats living in Korea, getting a taste of home ― literally, in the form of familiar foods, spices and dressings ― does come easy"?

Or did they mean "non-Western expats"? Because from this forum, I'm having the impression that certain things are hard to abtain even for the American expat, unless they have a friend on base.

Anyway this is a shop best used by expats living around Hannam Ogeori; for Itaewon and upper Hannam residents, there are closer choices. Including for non-Western expats.

...pondering...

Yeah, I think they meant "Pakis and Indians" when they said "non-Americans". I feel a bit offended by this.
