Which would you choose now, an iPhone 3GS or 4?

I was chatting with a friend who is signing up on 2 year contract with KT with iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4. Rather than getting the latest model now, he's leaning towards the 3GS as the iPhone 5 is likely to come up this summer. When it arrives in Korea by fall, he says he can do a device upgrade if he chooses to then. He says the iPhone 4 is really just the 3GS with the retina display, front camera, gyroscope, extra RAM and new case, while the iPhone 5 will be a major upgrade compared the 4. Plus the 3GS is much cheaper - currently either 69,000 or free with 2 year contract.

I mostly go by the rule that it's better to get the latest tech now rather than wait, but how does the math work out between those with 3GS vs. 4 when it comes to device upgrades with KT?

Upgrades rarely skip a generation.

There are no upgrades like back in the west. It's possible if your friend buys the phone outright or pays the cancellation fees. So if he's just holding out for the iphone 5...the cheaper option is better.

I'd get the 4, the 3GS is going to have almost no resale value once the 5 is released. Everyone's gonna be dumping them.

Can you postpone ur decision. Apple will present new products for 2011, maybe next Iphone generation also, and there will be some price drop.

Why would you need to roam on a Korean network when you can activate your phone with a Korean carrier?

Iam confused..

How is it possible for an E-2 holder to activate thier verizon plan on the KT/SK network? You know how they look at 'foreigners"..your "network" won't be viewed any differently.

E-2's can get contracted phones now? I don't think so..

Are you trolling or something?

Anything is possible. As long as your U.S phone has a sim card (some verizon phones don't) it can be activated on KT or SK. ANYONE can now get a contract phone, regardless of visa class.

So basically if you bring a phone from home, it can be activated...if you buy a phone here...you won't have any problems.
