There are public school positions advertised on Dave's, employer is Asan Office of Education, hiring is done by Sun Moon University (owned by unification church).
Does anyone have any idea why, or any experience? Jobs sound good, but I'm a bit wary .... Idea

Do you even know anything about the situation? The friends that I have that work there/for them aren't required to attend any prayer services. It's just a regular public school job.

I see those job ads sometimes, but I don't know if I could hack the insanity. I guess if they leave me alone about my personal beliefs it's ok, but I really hate cults. Are the schools really just like normal schools?

I have met several people working at Sun Moon University (either at the uni or in the local public schools). They are neither a) required to buy into the Moonie religion b) already brainwashed.

I was offered an interview for that area last January. The SunMoon Uni acts simpy as a recruiting agent for the public schools in that area. These are public schools, NOT religious institutions.
I was wary at first as well and thought they were hiring for some sort of international school at the university and thought they'd be trying to indoctrinate me. No, just for regular public schools. However, due to a lack of NETs in the area, if hired, you'd probably be required to work for different schools. Either some days at one school and some days at another or even mornings at one school and a class at another in the afternoon. Lastly, the salary offered (at least to me) wasn't quite enough for the lack of social life and job requirements (mulitple schools although a travel stipend is given).

Isn't that place pretty close to Seoul by KTX? Maybe 30 to 45 minutes? As for the schools, wouldn't it still be a standard EPIK contract?

Yeah, it's a standard public school job. They are also incredibly picky on candidates and will hire/not-hire base on random things (they didn't like the fact my glasses tint).

I used to work at Sunmoon University (not the public school system) and they do not try to convert you in anyway shape or form. As someone said, they basically work as a recruiting agent for the Asan public school system. Most of the teachers live in the same apartment complex for both University and public school positions. Old apartment but a big one bedroom place.

In the public school system you would be required to travel to mulitple schools. The pay is not great but you do get about 2 months vacation.

The university is about 10 minutes by taxi to Asan-Cheonan KTX station then 40 minutes to Seoul. The university can provide a discount card for the KTX that you can save up to 25% on KTX tickets.

Living there you are pretty isolated and it maybe wise to buy a car. People are friendly enough but not much of a large foreign community. Cheonan is where you would go for drinks and a good night out.

Really? Is that a joke? Who is picky? Moon Uni or the Ansan school board?

How many people live in Cheonan - Asan? How many people work there?

It was the recruiter from Sun Moon. They were nice enough to give me 20,000 won as a traveling fee... even though it cost me alot more to go out there Sad

Weigookin74 you sent me an email but I can't respond - have contact the admin but no response (yes I have posted more than the required minimum posts)

You question about Asan project. As far as my understanding they follow their own contract, it is not like EPIK. Have a look at past job posting - just do a search in the job posting forum for Sun Moon University (there was a recent job posting) and that will give you more information about it than what I could give you
