|

Hi everybody,
I'm new to this forum but have used it for a long time to see what's what in the TEFL land.
OK so I'm newly CELTA qualified and going to take a job in South Korea.
After turning down offers in China etc I've whittled it down to two job types:
-Public school teaching in Changwon
-Private school teaching in Busan
What should I take into consideration before accepting one?
What do I need to know about Changwon and Busan before?
If anyone has any experience or advice and is willing to offer it please do so as it would be very helpful.
PS are private schools really that bad?
THANK YOU!!! [/b] |

Private school or hagwan (after school language academy)?
Private schools can be GREAT or crap (a certain "Christian" school comes to mind.
Hagwans on the other hand (with a very few exceptions that most newbies will never find) start out as crap and get worse.
My personal choices would be:
1) Private school (k-12).
2) Public school (k-12).
3) University
4) Public school - AFTER school program (usually run by a subcontractor and NOT the school).
5) Unigwan
6) Slice my wrists.
7) Your average hagwan.

OK yeah the hagwon I think are after school ones,
From looking at the forum extensively I can see the amount of issues teachers encounter in hagwons
So I think Public school jobs are the best - because they're more accountable ; IS THIS CORRECT?
Anyone have any advice on whether Changwon or Busan's the better choice? |
