Over protecting children is one of the reasons young people behave so badly and have such an awful reputation. Why? Because many children no longer have respect for their parents, teachers or the real world. They take the state-enforced line that the youth comes first, that the teacher has to respect the pupils rights and not the other way around. We are told you are the future!, which ignores the fact adults are the present.

It's definitely a step in the right direction, as at least it acknowledges that there is a problem. I'll watch with interest to see how this actually plays out in the field.

Interesting post, thanks.

Yep it seems like the past 40 years, educationally speaking, have basically been an over-reaction to what went before. We still haven't found the right balance it seems.
