Just posting this question for my friend as I cant get any reliable information and when I called immigration they gave me the runaround.

Do F2/F4 current visa holders need to submit a federal level background check to the Office of Education to work at a Hakwon?

Thanks!

If the academy is licensed by the MOE then yes, you need to get it done.
It is, since Feb of 2012 (law passed in July 2011) a requirement for all teachers regardless of race, creed, nationality or visa status.

Get it done or find a new occupation.

It is a MOE requirement and NOT an immigration issue.

Thanks isitts, I remembered seeing it somewhere on here.

Now one more question.

My buddy has a few strikes against him back home; which is the reason that this CBC is an issue, does anyone know if the MOE is as strict about what is on the check as immigration is? I know he has a few minor possession charges, which would make immi deny an E2, is it the same for the MOE?

I am not 100% sure, but from what I have heard yes they are just as strict especially on drug charges since drugs are extremely illegal in Korea. From what I have been reading on these boards, if your CBC is not clean, then work will be hard to find. Again this is just from what I have read, hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be able to better answer your question.
