|
|
I'm leaving Korea in just under two months and I want to take my desktop with me. I was planning on breaking it down and shipping it home via post but I haven't been able to find anti static bags anywhere here in Jeollanamdo. I've tried GMarket, local pc shops, and even Kumho World in Gwangju and struck out each time. What are some alternatives that I could use in place of anti static bags? |

Honestly I wouldn't try to skimp on these if you are having trouble.
Although expensive, you may have to order these online (small money for doing things right).
This thread also gave a link for gmarket that may of use:

Arch,
I tried GMarket and I also had no luck. The vendors that sold bags individually told me they were sold out and had no bags to offer me. My only other option was to buy in bulk lots. :S |

That sucks ... well - bulk, amazon or nothing I guess. I remember when I tried once to hunt down some hdd plastic cases (the kind that they are originally packaged in) and almost everyone looked at me very strangely |

Not much, since it's conductive.
If you can make a trip to Seoul, I'm sure Yongsan has a ton lying around. |

That's the point. It's conductive. So are anti-static bags. The idea is to dissipate static electricity. |

Only slightly conductive so they can slowly transfer the static load between environments without spiking. |

There shouldn't be spikes as the foil would conduct the electricity evenly around it's surface the way the aluminium fuselage of an airplane dissipates lightning strikes. It's called a Faraday cage. |

I looked it up, you're right!
Good call. |

I didn't believe it either when I first heard.......
..actually, the first I knew about using foil was when a RAM dealer in Yongsan wrapped up the expensive RAM I was buying (about 5 years ago when it was about 100,000 per GB) in tin foil.......I couldn't believe what I was seeing....... |
