Hello. I am in a tight bind and need some help. I have an engagement ring that I bought outside of Korea and need it resized as soon as possible. It is one size smaller than her finger. I haven't proposed yet but don't want to wait to resize it, because I want her to be able to wear it right away. Can anyone recommend a jewlery store in Seoul that I can trust (and speaks at least some English)? I am paranoid about leaving it with the store, as I don't want them to swap out the diamond with a cheap one. Is this something that can be done in a short period of time, like an hour or so? It's a platinum band. And I already called Tiffany - they only work on rings bought there. Thanks in advance.

They'll throw it on one of those ring resizing tubes, hammer it into a bigger shape, and shave off the dings in a few minutes if you find the right place. I watched them do that to my 18k wedding band. I was pissed. It's gone now, though. I got a bit fat a few years later making it too small, kept it on a high shelf by itself, and it disappeared. No idea how. Neither my wife nor I wear rings now anyway.

I know this didn't help, but at least there's a reply to this now.

If you go to Jongno, across the street from the Jongmyo Parking Garage, there are jewelry places. If you wander into the little alleyways, there are workshops where people make rings. They'll resize rings for like 5000 won and you can sit and watch while they do it. These guys make and repair the rings for the Korean jewelry stores and even ones in the department stores. If you drop it off at a department store, they'll probably send it here anyway so might as well go there directly.

There's a building on the east side of Jongmyo where they have a gentrified version of the alleyway resize and shine. I went to 503 on the fifth floor fir the resizing and it was done infront of my eyes in 20mins. Then another place for the polish to be reapplied to the platinum.
