|

Hello all! I'm just about finished my TESL certification, and I've been doing a lot of research on teaching in Korea. Up until recently I was set on going to Seoul...but I had a conversation with a friend of mine who had been over there for six years, and he recommended Busan.
After looking at the two places, I'd like to hear from some insiders. To me, it seem as though Busan offers everything Seoul does in line of large city, subway, not as many jobs but still a lot of jobs, nightlife...
So how about it, is Seoul worth all they hype, or should I look to teach elsewhere, and simply visit Seoul? |

I only visited Seoul so I'd recommend Busan. The people were nicer than Daegu. |

As a former resident of Busan (1997-2008) and frequent visitor still, my vote goes to the coastal city.
It does NOT offer all that Seoul offers but it does offer many advantages....
Winters are milder
Beaches
Smaller city
Lower cost on many things
Different vibe than Seoul
Some people will prefer Seoul because it is the centre of Korean activity and it does offer more to the expat in terms of access to western wares and services.
Busan is more laid back in my opinion and offers the advantages of big city life with the advantages of smaller city lifestyle. Its hard to put into words however...
Good luck. |

Thanks for the info. How was the subway system there, efficient as anywhere else, and can I get anywhere I want around the city using it, or would I have to surface and take a bus route at certain points? |

The subway system there is fantastic.
I just visited this past winter and they have 3 lines working and were on the verge of opening 1 or 2 more (my father in law works for the Busan transit co).
If the subway does not cover it, the buses are also excellent. Taxis are still pretty affordable as well.
If you have any Busan related questions feel free to shoot them my way or pm me.
Good luck |
