Just looking for advice from anybody who knows about this sort of thing (I work in a hagwon).

If my boss and I agree to something to be added to the contract, how should I go about it?

Should it be printed in English and Korean on a piece of paper then signed by both parties, just like the original contract? then just added on?

And then would it need to be sent to immigration too?

Just thinking about covering my back later in case employer tries to screw me with severance. Thanks.

You should make two copies with original signatures - one for you and one for your employer. You need to have one if the need for a labor board hearing arises (Your boss will likely 'lose' his copy if the change was to your benefit. For that purpose, it is best to have it in korean and English. Have a korean friend (someone with no connection to your boss or workplace) check the korean translation to make sure it matches the English. It doesnt need to go to immigration unless your job has changed or your workplace has changed.

Also, make note in the new document that is an addendum to the original contract and reference the clauses that are being changed from the original contract or if it is a new clause being added.

and have it witnessed by a 3rdm independent party (that you will be able to find later if necessary).

Thanks guys.

I should add, the amendment I'm talking about is like this...

We agree that I finish a week earlier than my original contract says, as it's easier to have the next teacher start on that day. My boss says I will still get full pay and severance pay, despite finishing a week earlier than planned.

Does this sound too fishy to you guys? Should I just insist that I work till the full year is up? Or do you think it's OK as long as I have an amendment in both Korean and English stating that I will receive full severance and pay?

Labor law gives the worst terms that you can get. If you contract for better terms and it is agreed to, signed by both parties and witnessed then you should be fine. If problems arose you would have legal recourse.
