Does anyone know if it's possible/ and how to buy bus tickets from Seoul to Sokcho in advance from Dong Seoul bus terminal? My co-teacher told me just to show up on the day of departure and buy them, but we're planning on going on a holiday weekend so I'm worried that they will sell out! Any advice? My co-teacher also told me that foreigners can't buy them via the website in advance because we need a Korean credit card or registration number or something like that.

www.kobus.co.kr

Foreign registration numbers work just fine, and you can also pay by bank transfer if you don't have a Korean card. You could also go in person to the ticket window at the terminal and make the reservation there.

There are frequent busses from Seoul to Sokcho from early morning to late evening. Of more concern to me would be having somewhere to stay in or near Sokcho? Has this been organized yet? First time I went I ended up paying 120,000 a night inside Soraksan Park. In a subsequent trip I stayed at a Korean style motel 1km from the park entrance for 30k won. The YMCA is another option several km back towards Sokcho. Then there's the option of staying somewhere in Sokcho itself.

KOBUS covers only a few of the destinations served from Dong-Seoul.

OP can try a parallel system to KOBUS (http://www.hticket.co.kr) or Dong-Seoul Terminal's own, http://www.ti21.co.kr if he/she can manage it in Korean.

I went to Sokcho during the busy fall period. There was no problem getting a ticket at the bus terminal. On the way back we had to wait around 1 hour in Sokcho. It was Sunday afternoon so a lot of people were heading back to Seoul and Gyeongi. During that 1 hour waiting, at least 5-6 buses departed to Seoul. Right now it's not high season so it shouldn't be a problem.
As for accomodation, there are at least 2 dozens of love motels around that ugly thing which they call Expo Tower in Sokcho. 30-40,000 will get you a room.
