Hi all,
I'm reasonably new to korea but have now kitted out my apartment and it is missing just one key ingredient now; a games console.
Before spelling out own personal requirements, please vote in the poll above to say which you think is the more worthwhile investment whilst staying in Korea (in terms of things like price, popularity, better games roster, availability/compatibility of English games etc). I was fishing around for information on the subject recently so I think a thread along these lines could prove useful to people who want similar guidance in the future.
Thanks.

---------------------------------

Now, my own personal gaming predicament...
I have a ton of quality ps1/ps2 games back in the UK that I'm thinking about having shipped over here. I noticed that pretty much all of them are backwards compatible with the earlier (20/60GB) models of the ps3. However, would that still be the case with a Korean ps3 or do the previously held ps2 region locks still apply? I heard the ps3 did away with region locks altogether right? But I would imagine complications could occur when looking for backwards compatibility AND compatibility with all PAL games. Plus, I know backwards compatibility was done away with for later models like the PS3 slim. If all is lost on that front, perhaps it would be best to just get hold of a UK ps2 and have it sent over at the same time as the games.
Any advice/experiences with this matter would be appreciated.

IF my conclusion on the matter was to just get a UK ps2, then I would just be making the plain ol' choice between a ps3 or an Xbox 360. I was soooo close to just picking up an Xbox today for 300,000won. Decided to hold off till the weekend and make this thread instead.
Which leads me to some important questions;
- what would you say are reasonable retail prices for these consoles in Korea right now?
- worth going for a new one or just settle for second hand?
- which are the good deals on games at the moment? (as of March 2011)

Recent PS3s are not backwards compatible. Do not expect that. The vast majority of consoles have no backwards compatibility.

Xboxes are cheaper and if you are interested in modding your console, that's the way to go.

Ps3s are pricier but they are completely region free. A lot of xbox games are region locked, and there can be issues getting games in English rather than Korean.

I have both (and Wii) and because of this support the PS3 in this poll. Very few games have the English issue (notable ones include Final Fantasy XIII and God of War III).

If you really want to play your old PS2 games, I'd recommend doing what I did and getting a PS2 Slim off eBay. It'll be less than $100 even with shipping.

Thanks for the tips. Leaning towards a PS3 at the moment. Is the slim model available here?

Btw, I've not had much luck comparing Korean console prices using the internet.
Saw an Xbox 360 for 300,000won. Is that the RRP?
How about the PS3?

If anyone with at least a link to a webpage showing the current console prices in Korea could post the info tonight, I'd be very grateful as I plan to pick up one up tomorrow.
I have no clue when it comes to hangul so have yet to find anything in terms of a price comparison website.
