I just got a PS2 from a friend who bought it in Korea, it's a SCPH 30005 R. I want to play a game from a different region (with some mods that only work for that region, that's why I can't buy the Korean version) that I downloaded from the internet. I burned it onto a DVD but it doesn't work, the PS2 just acts like I didn't put a disc in. Although I don't have much experience with this, I doubt it has to do with what the DVD though, because I burned it five times with five different burning programs and got the same result every time. I'm guessing it's the regional difference and that my PS2 hasn't been modded accordingly. I don't know anything about consoles, but I read on the internet about Magic Swap being the best tool to enable the use of DVD's from different regions. They have modding tools for about every playstation model except for this one. I've also read about the Action Replay v2, but don't know anything about it or if it's sold in Korea. Does anyone have any ideas? How can I mod this thing so I can play my game?

your system is not playing the game because it(the ps2) hasn't been modded. i havent used my ps2 in a while, so some of my memories may not be so accurate. yes, you could use swap magic or another software sol'n, but you can also get it hard modded(that's what i had done to mine). i assume they still do such a thing, and it's probably significantly cheaper now than the 50,000won i paid to have mine done a long time ago - bring it to yongsan or some other gameshop. wrt the particular game you're talking about, i'm not sure. from what i recall, all ntsc games will play on a hard modded korean-bought(ntsc-j) ps2 if burned correctly. you can also play pal games on older tvs after they(the game) are patched.

so unrar, patch the iso if u have an older tv and it's a pal game, and burn with imgburn(or whatever).

don't throw the dvds you burned out yet either...all of them might work!

Take it to Yongsan, go to video game alley and have them stick a chip in it.

Or, if it already has one that you don't know about: with the system off, hold triangle and circle on controller one and turn it on. Wait a bit with the buttons held and if you have the same chip I did, you'll get a settings screen where you can change a whole bunch of options, including the system region. Presumably other chips have the same ability, but may require a different method to access settings. Google is your friend.
