Undeniable that they've played a significant role in helping to effect the rapid changes occuring in the Middle East, but now aiming to broaden their reach to the US. Will CNN be able to coordinate things so their sworn enemy doesn't get a foothold? Will CNN be forced to alter its style of coverage? A possible toe-to-toe showdown between the two heavyweights on the horizon? Probably not, as certain factions within the US stand to lose too much if all Americans were exposed to the types of things that CNN edits out. Still, they do seem to be gaining online viewership stateside.

It is undeniable that al Jazeera is actively supporting the rebels in each country. They can get by with it on this issue, but when they cover and take sides on an issue that isn't popular, they'll have some problems.

They do have some advantages. Their anchors/reporters are easy on the eye, better looking than those blonde bimbos on Fox that look like they've been under the knife. I wish the network would post their names when they are on air.

One irritation that bothers me: They don't post the dates on their video clips. It's hard to tell if they are live or taped.

But it would be good for it to be widely available in the US. It would put pressure on American networks to step up the quality of their coverage.

I think most of us were introduced to Al Jazeera as a venue for terrorists posting videos. Upon my arrival in the Middle East, I was pleasantly surprised at how they function. Based out of Qatar, they're surprisingly similar to both CNN and the BBC. The added attraction was their investigative reporting, which features a broader range of topics that don't typically make the radar of western news.

To think that Bush and the neo-cons wanted to bomb them. Laughing
